Burial has just released a new three-track EP, ‘Streetlands’.

The surprise release landed on Kode9’s Hyperdub at midnight, boasting three brand-new cuts of ambient experimentation.

Spanning 35 minutes across three tracks, ‘Streetlands’ is the follow-up to Burial’s ‘Antidawn’ record which dropped earlier this year, his longest release since 2007’s ‘Untrue’.

‘Hospital Chapel’, the record’s opening track, is an eight-minute slow-burner followed by the EP’s title track which runs through irregular synths and percussion layered under eerie vocals across a 15-minute cut.

The EP’s final track, ‘Exokind’, pulls away from the ambient cuts with choppier beats and an enormous build-up to its 160 BPM finale.

The elusive producer has been releasing music regularly over the past few years – his last release, ‘Antidawn’ came shortly after a collaborative effort between Burial and Blackdown in April last year, ‘Shock Power Of Love’.

Shortly before that, Burial released the long-awaited B-side to his ‘Chemz’ track some six months after it was initially released, titled ‘Dolphinz’.

‘Streetlands’ is said to be Burial’s final release of the year, bookending 2022 with his second record. ’Antidawn’, which came out in January, was described as “an interzone between dislocated, patchwork songwriting and eerie, open-world, game space ambience”.
