Living Legend: David Morales Returns to Ministry of Sound

David Morales is a household name in the world of clubbing, having performed at nightclubs globally since the 80s. He has a Grammy under his belt, awarded for “Remixer of the Year” in 1998, and has produced and remixed tracks for a slew of all-star artists, including Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, Madonna, and Jamiroquai, among others.
Morales has a long-standing relationship with the iconic Ministry of Sound, having spun records there since its inception. On March 18th, he will be joined by a roster of impressive DJs, including SmokinJo, who was crowned the number one DJ in the world by DJ Mag in 1992, Justin Berkmann, who has toured globally and co-founded Ministry of Sound in 1991, Sarah Bo Parker, Neil Pearce, and many others.

Hailing from New York, Morales was a regular at the legendary Paradise Garage, a club that became a hub for artists and creatives in the 90s. The club has since closed its doors, but its legacy lives on as a communal and legendary clubbing experience. The atmosphere of the Paradise Garage was instrumental in shaping Morales’ career, and it was this same creative and exciting atmosphere that inspired the founders of Ministry of Sound to transform a dingy bus station into the world-renowned club it is today.
Despite his long career, Morales has maintained his status as a revered figure in the house music scene. In fact, last year he released his first full-length album in over a decade titled ‘Life is a Song,’ which has garnered millions of streams on Spotify and iTunes. During the lockdown, Morales even started his own livestream, Sunday Mass, where he hosted six-hour broadcasts for his online audience. His efforts did not go unnoticed, as IMS Business Report cited him as one of the dance music artists who had experienced success during the pandemic.

Eager to get out in the world after the pandemic, David is returning to play at Ministry of Sound after playing at clubs across New York, the UK, Italy, Greece and Croatia. His fame gives him free pick of gigs around the world, including the ‘honour’ of being invited to play at Ministry for a fundraising event organised by long-standing DJ Steve Laviniere for his twin brother Bobby. When asked about the event, David said, ‘It is important to lend my name and my brand to show the unity and support to such a very important cause. You have to respect people like Bobby and Steve, who are game-changers and have been supporting this scene for many, many years.’
