Cardiff’s club night Enter the Dragon has announced its return, set to takeover the city’s DEPOT venue on September 23.

The aim of the night is to remember the historic Fridays at Cardiff’s Vision 2k, which operated from 2000 until the club’s closure in 2003. “Those were crazy times,” explains co-founder Andy Wheeler. “We used to love the Friday night vibe, and it was always great to see everyone having a fantastic time. They were special days, and I think we’re still recovering.”

On the bill for the resurgence event is Mauro Picotto, Fergie, This Culture, Richie Knight and Enter the Dragon’s other co-founder, DJ Jimpy, who will be playing a classic trance vinyl set.

There’s set to be several visual accompaniments to the soundscapes on offer: stilt walkers, fire breathers, dancers and “other surprises harking back to the legendary era of dance music” are promised.

“Over the years, during those halcyon days, we put on some great parties and over the last few years, we have put on a few small Enter the Dragon reunion events with John 00 Fleming and JFK, both of which were extremely busy and great fun,” explains Jimpy. “This year, we wanted to do something on a grander scale that takes us back to the more significant events we put on from 2000-2003. We sat down, went through a load of old flyers, and jogged the memory banks, and two DJ names kept coming up every time. One was Mauro Picotto, and the other was Fergie.

“We gave Mauro his first UK gig at Enter the Dragon; it was a stormer. He played for us quite regularly and always delivered an epic night. Similar to Fergie. At the time, he was with Radio 1, and we wanted him to play for us. We booked him, and we had a roadblock event. It was pure magic, and again he played for us a few times and became a friend. Andy still goes out to Vegas to party with him quite regularly.

“We realised it was 20 years since both DJs played in Cardiff, and we thought it would be great if we could get them both to come back to pay for us. The stars must have aligned because these legendary artists are returning to play for us on September 23, at Cardiff’s Depot as part of a 20th-anniversary reunion party. Fergie is making a rare UK appearance and flying in from his residency in Hakkasan in Las Vegas. It’s pretty big.”
