Eight people arrested following thousands-strong rave in Bristol

Eight people have been arrested following a thousands-strong rave in Bristol.

Avon and Somerset police were called to the event, which took place at an empty warehouse on Burcott Road In the Avonmouth area of the city, at around 9:05PM on Saturday (September 23) before putting a halt to the event.

According to officers, they engaged with those they believe were involved in organising the event to “bring it to a safe conclusion” whilst also trying to prevent more people from entering the site.

Five people are suspected to be involved in organising the rave, and were arrested on suspicion of burglary offences. They have now been released on bail according to the BBC.

Three others were also arrested in the process of ending the event, but are not believed to be involved in its organisation.

Those arrested are aged between 18 and 30-years-old and all live outside of the area.

The police statement added: “On arrival, they found a significant number of people at the site of a disused warehouse, in Burcott Road, with music and sound equipment being unloaded, as well as more people arriving.

“A policing operation throughout the night has prioritised public safety, conscious of the dangers that having a very large number of people in a confined space can cause.

The police statement has received local’s responses with one person saying “Way to show them,” with another person commenting: “Gutted I missed it!! Looked quality”.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Darren Lipscomb said: “We have made a number of arrests of people who we believe have travelled vast distances and are suspected of being involved in the organising of this event. Enquiries are ongoing.

“Approximately 20-30 people remained at the site until the music was switched off shortly after noon and the site was cleared.

“We are in contact with the building owner and the property has been secured to prevent further incidents.”
