U Understand Me Music has announced that it will be hosting a day party curated by the late MC Fats‘ nearest and dearest at the club that the legendary drum ‘n’ bass MC called home, fabric.

All profits from the rave, titled In Memory of MC Fats: Peace, Love and Unity – a nod to his famous track with DJ Hype – will go directly to cover final burial expenses and the running costs of Fats’ projects and personal endeavours.

MC Fats AKA Singing Fats, real name Wildale Spencer, was one of the most distinctive and central voices of jungle and drum ‘n’ bass from its infancy, working with luminaries of the scene such as Calibre, Chase & Status, Dillinja, DJ Randall and more.

Inspired by his reggae and rare groove background, Fats was known for his soulful vocals which he brought to d’n’b raves in the UK and beyond, holding a residency at London clubbing institution fabric.

In conversation with Mixmag, fellow MC GQ described Fats to as “his big brother”, stating that “musically, he was in a lane of his own … there will only be one MC Fats,” and toasting the funnier side of his “big voice” and “big character”, recollecting that he was “always taking the piss out of someone.”

Cleveland Watkiss concurs, reflecting that “Fats’ spirit and music will always be with us.

“I’m filled with great memories, joy and laughter, every time I think of him – which is often.”

DJ Hype celebrated his friendship with Spencer as “a beautiful thing, made of music and everything else in life.”

“His voice touched so many people and he will live on forever in my heart.”
