The Cope share transformative album ‘Dancer’

The Cope have returned to close the year with their new album, ‘DANCER’.

Comprised of 12 tracks, fuelled with pulsating electronica, piercing synths and hypnotic, at times delicate, vocals, the record was conceived amid lockdowns during the pandemic.

It now exists as an ode to the transformative capacity of music, with the Irish duo’s objective of creating soundscapes that capture the collective longing for communal celebration shimmering from beginning to end. This summer, The Cope were able to embody that celebration, performing their new album across their festival appearances.

“We had two goals in mind,” the pair explain. “Firstly, we wanted to create music that we ourselves would want to hear when people could finally return to the dance floor. Secondly, we wanted to craft the kind of music that compels people to dance, creating an immersive experience that captures the diverse moods of a night out.

“Our sole aim is to incite movement in people. Seeing those crowds lose themselves in our performance is the ultimate validation that we’ve achieved our artistic objectives. There’s no greater fulfilment than that.”

To accompany the album release, The Cope have collaborated with writer and director Jamie Delany to create a short film set against the background of Donegal, Ireland, addressing universal challenges faced by contemporary youth. It follows on from their short dance film for ‘Oíche / Back on My Bullshit’, which won best dance film at the Cannes World Film Festival. Check it below:
