Viral social media sensation and dance music lover, Fish56Octagon, has launched his own record label, Octagon Discs, in partnership with Another Rhythm Records (a subdivision of the independent entertainment company The Other Songs).

The 44-year-old revealed the first release on the imprint will be a remix of Groove Armada’s iconic ‘Superstylin’ by Declan Knapp, set to drop on October 4.

The announcement follows a successful debut summer for Fish, which saw the fast-growing DJ play 60 shows across Europe, including three sets at Glastonbury and multiple dates in Ibiza.

Having started out as a car enthusiast, the content creator switched to making videos on dance music around nine months ago. Donning a red and black dressing gown, Fish shows off his impressive rave-focussed record collection (which spans 90s dance music genres including jungle, hardcore, garage and more), providing snippets of information along the way and dancing enthusiastically.

The formula proved popular, shooting the DJ into the limelight with over 600,000 followers on Instagram and earning him praise from the likes of Carl Cox, Bicep, and Disclosure.

Having become something of a tastemaker, Fish now receives hundreds of demos from aspiring producers hoping to get their music played on the influential Instagram account. Knapp’s remix was one of these tracks, and became a “festival favourite” for Fish this summer.

It also received the stamp of approval from Groove Armada’s own Andy Cato as he played it for the opening of his Glastonbury set this year.

“Superstylin’ has been in my life since I started DJing,” says Knapp. “It’s been incredible to produce a new version of it in my own style. Although that first version is timeless, I wanted to put a modern take on it and deliver a new and exciting sound that elevates the very power of the original. The overwhelmingly positive reception for the track means a lot to me, and I am glad that I could do it justice.”

The forthcoming release will establish Octagon Discs’ goal to represent artists, both emerging and established, that are pushing the boundaries of electronic music.

“Fish has an incredible gift for curating, communicating and sharing music with his totally unique and infectious passion. We’re ecstatic to launch Octagon Discs, which will give artists a platform to reach a fast-growing community within electronic music and beyond.” says Billy Webber, co-founder of Another Rhythm Records.

Another Rhythm Records is the label section of The Other Songs, a burgeoning platform focused on paving the way for the future of electronic music.
