1,000 people attend illegal rave on farm in Suffolk

On Saturday, August 31, around 1,000 people attended an illegal rave on a farm in Euston, a village close to Thetford, Suffolk.

Suffolk Police were alerted of the unlicensed event at around 3:50AM on Sunday morning (September 1), with reports of a large gathering taking place on a local farm, Suffolk News reported.

Armed police were dispatched to the scene, along with a drone unit, dog unit and specially trained public order officers. It took them around 13 hours to completely shut down the party and take control of music equipment before sending revellers home.

During the procedure, eight people were arrested on a number of different charges including suspicion of drunk driving, suspicion of conspiracy to commit public nuisance, and possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply.

They have each been taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for further questioning.

Meanwhile, five generators and various other pieces of sound equipment were seized as part of the investigation, as well as two vans and a car.

Chief Superintendent Alice Scott said: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the UME (unlicensed music event) and to identify all those involved in its planning.”

“Unlicensed music events like this can cause a considerable amount of disruption, causing widespread damage to the natural environment as well. As they don’t have to conform to any safety standards, they also put those who choose to attend at risk.”
