Berlin nightclub Suicide Circus has rebranded with a name change, now going by Lokschuppen Berlin as of January 1, 2024.
The club posted a statement on social media last week saying that its former name often led to “misunderstandings and prejudices”, and is negatively associated with the venue.
“We have an important announcement to make: As of January 1, 2024, we will be changing our name from Suicide Club to Lokschuppen Berlin,” the club announced on Instagram last week.

“Since 2009, we have been part of transforming the venue located at RAW into a vibrant place known for its electronic music, creative atmosphere and community,” it added.
The post went on to add that the original name was an ode to the New York band Suicide “whose experimental sound and provocative aesthetic defined the music scene of the 70s and 80s”, stating: “We wanted to express our love of music and art.”
The club recognised that its former name “sometimes led to misunderstandings and prejudices”, but doesn’t want to be “associated with anything negative”.

The venue’s new name, Lokschuppen Berlin, is said to reflect its connection to the club’s location. The name translates to “locomotive shed” from German, a nod to its location next to the train tracks in Warschauer Straße.
“We want our club to be a place of joy, inspiration and encounters,” the club added in a statement. “That is why we have decided to change our name and reposition ourselves.”
Lokschuppen Berlin has been operating for almost 15 years in the east of Berlin, attracting tourists from all over the world each weekend.
