Catching Up With Lucas & Steve

Beyond their breathtaking melodies and explosive live sets, you’ll find dance music’s closest friendship. Dutch powerhouse duo Lucas & Steve have seen a momentous rise to stardom in recent years with consecutive summer hits, multiple platinum and golden records, an endless string of international performances and accolades from BUMA (The Netherlands), Fun Radio (France), DJ Mag, MTV and many more.
The pair are renowned for uplifting productions and emotive lyrics, etching their place in modern dance music with massive radio hits like “Summer On You”, “Up Till Dawn”, “Where Have You Gone”, “Perfect” and of course “Letters”, the title track of their 2020 debut album: “Letters to Remember”. Their 16 song LP, which received the Netherlands’ prestigious Edison Pop Award, showcases their musical diversity and solidifies Lucas & Steve’s reputation as truly talented songwriters. With deeply embedded dance roots, the pair have collaborated with the likes of Armin van Buuren, Sam Feldt, W&W, Mike Williams and remixed many household names such as David Guetta, Robin Schulz, Kygo, Lost Frequencies and Illenium among many others.

We phoned Steve to find out a bit more about what the duo are up to and what they have planned for the year…

Where are you both in the world right now?
 Lucas is in Indonesia at the moment,  I’m in Costa Rica! (Steven)

What was the last club you both played at and which country was it in?
Last show before our holiday was club Opium Barcelona, Spain. We always enjoy playing in Barcelona.

How did you both meet?
We’ve known each other for a very long time. From Primary School actually. We became friends & we decided to produce music and play together! 
What do you love about being a producer and what do you love about being a DJ?
We love being in the studio and play our records live for our fans! That’s an ultimate combination for us.

You’ve worked with lots of different artists over the years, who was your favourite to work with and why?
Oee we did a lot of cool collaborations like with Tiesto, Galantis, Afrojack & DubVision.

What’s your favourite thing or things to do in London when you’re both here?
 Strolling through the city, having some nice food and good cocktails!

When you’ve performed at Ministry of Sound in the past, were there any tracks back then that you still play now, if so… What tracks are they?
Yeah we think so. We played a lot of new music which wasn’t out yet. But we can’t wait to play our new music in the MOS.

When was the first time you played at Ministry of Sound and what made it so special?
Good question, was it 2020? Just before corona? It’s always super packed & it’s always great to see our UK party people again.
Finally… What can you promise fans ahead of your set on Friday 3rd March?
We are going to play a lot of new club records, we can’t wait to be back at the Ministry of Sound!

Most recently, Lucas & Steve expressed their excitement to bring their sound back on the road with the release of the aptly titled “Set You Free”. Completely reinvigorated, Lucas & Steve are finally emerging from the past two years with a whole new bag of musical tricks up their sleeves. With a succulent summer tour ahead, the Dutch duo is ready to show fans that the best is yet to come.
