Dan Shake has released his new EP, ‘Verde’, via his own Shake Records imprint.

The record is a left-turn from his usual dancefloor-primed groovy tracks and takes a more introspective approach but remains synonymous to the previous Mixmag cover star’scover star’s renowned sonic identity of funk, soul, house and disco.

Inspired by a move from London to Devon, escapism is a theme running throughout ‘Verde’, with a newfound appreciation for nature enabling Shake to experiment with his sound more than before. He even includes his own vocals, for the first time pushing them to the forefront on the release.

“Usually when I’m touring I am making music in between shows, inspired by the clubs or festivals I had just been to, however I made this EP mid-lockdown, recently having moved from London to the middle of nowhere in Devon,” he explains. “My headspace was in a completely different place, surrounded by nature and silence.

“The freedom of time also gave me a chance to experiment a little more; using my own vocals for the first time, creating more abstract synths, recording field noises, etc.”

Following such an extensive period of downtime, though, Shake is heading back on the road this summer. Set to headline sets, and appear at countless festivals across the globe, forthcoming shows include Printworks, Gottwood Festival, Hideout Festival, Glitterbox Ibiza and ION Festival.
