Paris’ Rex Club is due to close temporarily until the end of the year for renovation, the venue has announced on Instagram.

The club will close its doors at the end of May while “extensive work” is planned and conducted throughout the coming months. Rex Club said they expect the venue to reopen by the end of the year.

The club told punters about its “badly kept secret” and plans to start work on the iconic Parisian venue yesterday, May 4, in an Instagram post.

“The DNA of the Rex Club will remain but its appearance will change profoundly,” they said, explaining that the club will receive “the renovation it really deserves”.

“You therefore have 14 evenings left to come and celebrate the Rex Club as it should be, many of you are expected for a full month of closing.”

The last 14 events at Rex Club in its current form are set to run until May 27, featuring artists including Manami, Raresh, CC:DISCO!, John Talabot, Traumer, GiGi FM, and Chinau.

Amongst Rex’s new features, a brand new lighting rig will be installed while the club’s current d&b soundystem will remain. “2023 will mark the end of one era and the beginning of another,” they said.

Victorien Jacquemond, Rex’s Communications and Relations Manager, told Resident Advisor that the venue’s bar, bathrooms, and dancefloor are all due to be renovated, but will each remain in their current place due to the club’s listed status.

This year, Rex Club celebrates 35 years as a techno institution in central Paris. To celebrate, the club is due to launch an archival book featuring “photos, objects, and flyers” throughout its history.
