Midland, real name Harry Agius, has announced the release of his debut album ‘Fragments Of Us’ on October 4 via his own imprint, Graded.

‘Fragments Of Us’ is a celebration of queer identity across 13 tracks, landing more than a decade into Midland’s music career. The announcement comes alongside the LP’s lead single, ‘Never Enough’. Listen below.

‘Never Enough’ is a deep, synth-led voyage that begins downtempo and gradually builds to a lighter tone, reflecting the evolution of Midland’s journey so far. Heavily filtered vocals, sung by the artist himself, discuss the “process of detangling your roots to build new paths forward”.

The record is filled with meaning, a celebration of his experience growing up gay, and a tribute to the people who have helped his journey along the way.

Sampling the voices of LGBTQIA+ icons including Marlon Riggs, David Wojnarowicz, and Horse Meat Disco’s Luke Howard, Midland remembers the AIDS crisis through his music, making the album a work of historical documentation as much an innovative exploration of sound and identity.

The artwork, shot by Midland himself, is a photograph of his brother, who is also queer and lost many friends to the AIDS crisis during the ’90s.

Speaking on the album, Midland calls it a “homage to and celebration of the gift of otherness and the spaces and voices that have helped along the way”.

“I have rushed many things in my life but not this and it feels liberating to be on the precipice of releasing something that took shape and formed in the way this did,” he said on Instagram.

As Midland gears up to unveil this incredibly heartfelt piece of work, he’s due to perform at Waterworks Festival on September 14, bringing his signature sound to the Orbit Stage alongside the likes of Moxie, NIKS and Michelle Manetti.
