Nectax has shared his debut on Over/Shadow with EP ‘Voychek’.

The record features four tracks including a ’93-style remix of the titular cut – with the original cutting up dancefloors in DJ sets of names including DJ Flight and Nia Archives – by DJ Sofa. Across each track, Newcastle-based Nectax pays homage to all corners of club music, including jungle, techno, drum ‘n’ bass, hardcore and footwork.

“The title track ‘Voychek’ is almost entirely made up of the Amen break – even the intro pad sounds are an Amen snare with a load of reverb on,” Nectax tells Mixmag.

“The track actually started off as a way to kill time whilst on the ferry to Amsterdam. My mate and I thought it could be fun to each try to make a whole tune using just one break; ‘Voychek’ was born.”

‘Voychek EP’ models part four of the label’s Quadrant series, harking back to Moving Shadow – the imprint in which Over/Shadow has evolved from – and its 1994 vinyl abstraction ‘Two On One’. As per its inspiration, the Quadrant series encourages collectors to piece together to piece together each release artwork to form a completed image.

Last month, DJ Flight featured Nectax on her Kool FM show, describing the producer as “one of nextgen jungle’s brightest stars and the provider of a large part of my sets over the last couple years”. He’s flown the flag for faster sounds in the North East both through his music but also as co-founder of popular party STEREO 45.
