Edinburgh-based Neptune Discs has announced its forthcoming V/A, set for release on December 8.

The record embodies sounds of 90s house and trance, with each of the artists involved – Maze (pictured), Cybernet, Aiden Francis and Laars – all contributing their own sound to produce a cohesive final record.

Opening on meditative progressive house and trance loops and rhythms, its tracklisting brings listeners to a peak-time crescendo from Cybernet before immersing the senses into rolling cuts of deep house.

“Taking on darker, slower sonic realms, ‘Chug’ finds itself barraging through the mist at a deceiving pace with thickness, squelch and a tasteful amount of groove,” Francis explains on his opening cut. “Choosing to opt for progression rather than ecstasy-laden drops, each section of the track peels away another layer of its ghostly mysticism.”

“‘Don’t Rush, You’re Already Here’ is my fourth track released to the world, despite having been around the DJ block,” adds Maze. “It took me a while to figure out you don’t have to go hard to get high, but Neptune Discs seemed to materialise that way. Thanks to those at the label for welcoming my soft deep sea diver alongside such astral beings as Aiden Francis, Cybernet and Laars.”

“In a time where vinyl releases are so prevalent, it’s increasingly humbling to be entrusted with the music of such talented artists for digital-only releases,” labelhead Astro tells Mixmag.

“Juggling between booking DJs like Helena Hauff, Courtesy and Pearson Sound for my Edinburgh party night First Edition; and producing/djing under Astro; it has been incredibly satisfying running Neptune Discs and working with some amazing artists, watching it grow over the past four years. Who knows, maybe we will be bringing some 12” discs in the near future.”
