Parklife festival forced to cut power to stages due to thunderstorms

Parklife festival was forced to shut-off the power to its stages and issue safety warnings to attendees on Sunday, due to thunderstorms in the Manchester area.

“Due to the storm, we may have to cut power on the stage,” Parklife announced on Sunday, June 11, on the final day of the festival.

Attendees were also told to stay three metres away from metal structures via stage screens and urged not to use phones, hold up flags, or selfie sticks.

“During this time, we may not be able to make announcements. Do not use your mobile phone or hold up flags, metal objects, selfie sticks,” they asked attendees.

Shortly after, Parklife announced a full show stop and restrictions on admission into the festival due to yellow thunderstorm warnings. Last entry to the festival was pushed back.

“Please note for the safety of customers and staff, we are calling a full show stop,” they tweeted at 4PM. “We are expecting this to last for 40 minutes whilst the storm passes.”

At 5PM, Parklife announced a full return to show as the storm passed, but pushed back performances from VTSS, Shygirl, Jamz Supernova, Chris Stussy, and several more.

“5pm. We’re back. The storm has passed – LET’S GO MANCHESTER,” Parklife announced alongside a photo of East End Dubs performing on the festival’s Hangar Stage.

This year, Parklife Festival took place from Saturday, June 10, to Sunday, June 11 at Manchester’s Heaton Park. It hosted headline sets from The Prodigy, Fred again.., Wu-Tang Clan, and Little Simz.
