The search for a 19-year-old who went missing after attending a dance music event in Tenerife has entered its fifth day.

Jay Slater was reported missing just hours after attending New Rave Generation Festival, a three-day event which took place over the weekend from June 14 – 16.

The teenager, originally from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, was reported to have travelled to the island to attend the festival on his first holiday with friends.

In a statement to Mixmag, New Rave Generation Festival said: “We share the widespread concern for Jay and are continuing to support members of his family on the ground in Tenerife.”

“Local authorities are coordinating the search and can be contacted with any information which may be of help on local numbers 062 or 112.”

The last known video taken of Slater showed him at Tenerife nightclub Papagayo on Sunday night, where he was making his way through a crowd. He’s then thought to have stayed with people he met at the festival, miles away from his friends in a “very secluded location”.

On Monday morning just before 9:AM, Slater reportedly called his friends “frantically”, saying he was lost and was attempting to walk back to his accommodation alone – a journey that would have taken him 11 hours on foot.

He explained that he had a cut on his leg from a cactus, was in need of water, and had missed the bus that would have taken him to his friends. Slater’s phone then died – the last known communication with the 19-year-old before he was declared missing.

His phone shows his last location at the Rural de Teno Park, a mountainous area in west Tenerife. Police are currently searching for Slater using mountain rescue teams, drones, a helicopter, and sniffer dogs.

According to the BBC, search teams are now looking at a ravine area off the mountain path. Investigators have been looking through bags of rubbish nearby to find clues.

New Rave Generation Festival took place across the weekend with performances from horsegiirL, 999999999, Patrick Mason, Hannah Laing, and more. Before he went missing, Slater posted clips of the event on social media.
