A green space in Leigh, Greater Manchester – that attracted an army of ravers during lockdown – is getting turned into a Primary School, Manchester Evening News reports.
The proposed build comes as part of a plan to expand Rowan Tree Primary Special School’s current Green Hall Close premises by building on the vacant spot — the setting of a hundreds-strong illegal party in May 2020.
Moving two miles down to Leigh, in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, the school will occupy a space formerly held by Our Lady of The Rosary RC near Heath lane.

Keen dancers spotted the abandoned potential free-party site during lockdown, and donated a series of informative rave tutorials to the former primary school location.
Unfortunately, the raving how-to guide missed an important module, as in May 2020, the ravers were scolded over social media for the amount of mess they left behind.
The portfolio holder for Police, Crime and Civil Contingencies said “This is a really good opportunity to support this site and I look forward to seeing what the consultation produces. At one point this was used as an all night rager during covid.”

Wigan Council Bosses approved a cabinet report on August 3 that explained the issues with the current school building given how old it is, citing potential health and safety concerns that could arise as a result of the structure’s outdated design. Moreover, the current Green Hall Close site would not be large enough to fit a new school.
The new site is larger, and in a more accessible location for Wigan children. Moreover, the move will help provide a solution to the growing demand for SEND locations in the area, as the primary school will expand from 117 to 154 students.
