Tsbilisi’s Left Bank to include record shop, café and bookstore

Tbilisi-based club Left Bank has announced that its one of its club rooms, Space One, will begin a “new chapter” where it “transforms” into a café and bar that sells books and records.

The space, bar Mondays, will be open throughout, traditionally between the hours of 3PM and 11PM, the week without an entrance fee and, providing good weather, offer outside seating.

The venue has assured that while changing, “Space One continue to serve its original function, holding club nights and hosting in-store sessions, panel discussions, film screenings, poetry readings and much more.”

Space One was Left Bank’s first dancefloor until the opening of Space Two. As a result of the new hub, the space will only be used sparingly for its original purpose. The venue is situated in a brick building, built in 1879, with a ten-metre tall tower containing a disco ball.

Left Bank co-founder Gacha Bakradze and resident DJ Ash Scholem told Resident Advisor that “the idea was to have something to offer during the week for our community, so they can work or hang out or listen to some records.”

“We wanted a way to get closer to the people who frequently come to the club and give them new experiences.”

The transformed Space One opened on November 2 with an in-store session featuring b2b’s from Ash Scholem and Esi plus Ani Kvirkvelia with HVL.

Last month, Left Bank celebrated its second birthday with the launch of a new label and compilation offering a diverse range of electronic music, featuring contributions from Bruce, James Bangura and Sam Goku alongside local talent.

All proceeds from the ‘Stop What You’re Doing’ VA will be donated to the United Nations Population Fund.
