In a brand Digital Cover interview with The Face, Paris-based collective 99GINGER speak about the rapidly changing pace of the city’s music and fashion underground.

Set to perform at The Face and New Balance’s collaborative party with support from Mixmag in Paris this Thursday, 99GINGER’s Red Koffee gears up to play across an hour-long slot.

Speaking to The Face ahead of the event, Red Koffee argues: “[The Paris scene] was too segmented. When we go out, we want music from distinct music scenes, from distinct countries and distinct towns and distinct movements. A nice fusion of all that.”

Red Koffee is due to play from 10:PM – 11:PM this Thursday, livestreamed by Mixmag. The sub-headline set takes place before a takeover from French rapper BU$HI and Leicester’s Sainté.

The party will go ahead in an unexpected warehouse space at the heart of Paris on January 19 – just a hop, skip and a jump from the Gare de Lyon – to celebrate the launch of New Balance’s We Got Now project.

We Got Now explores the best in alternative and underground music. Giving a platform to up-and-coming talent, New Balance does it in style – throwing their hat into the ring of cultural ambassadors.

Made up of seven members, 99GINGER is a growing collective taking the Paris dance music sphere by storm with a regular slot on NTS Radio, city-wide parties, and a forthcoming residency at London’s KOKO through April.

“We’re the generation of change,” says 99GINGER’s Kirou. “France is pretty conservative, musically and otherwise. It’s house music for white people. I listen to a lot of house music, but that scene was not inclusive.”
